Kampala Church of Christ News Letter- February 2014

Greetings in the Mighty Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and Happy 2014. We give thanks to God for giving you all life and the opportunity to serve in His Kingdom. The Body of Christ at Kampala Church of Christ continues to serve God and many people are being impacted in both small and big ways for the love of God.

Last year we embarked on plans to start a kindergarten school in wakiso. A Leap of Faith, it was dubbed. God has been so good to manifest His workings in amazing ways to help us all see His power in the lives of His people through this project. We have lived to witness what started as a dream becoming a reality when God led us to a one acre piece of land. God has journeyed with us in the negotiations to purchase the land, in fundraising for the funds, in God using people to provide the funds, in registering fifty eight needy children for what has come to be called Vine Christian Academy. The beginnings have been humble and we continue to be amazed of God’s power as the trail of God winds through the Vine plant and the branches. Currently the school is running a kindergarten and primary one program.

Of the fifty eight children registered, twenty five have so far have gotten sponsors through the Christian Relief Fund (CRF). Seventeen of these children are enrolled into the school while the rest who are older and in higher classes are in different schools around wakiso. A number of people in the community of wakiso, have already started inquiring on how to register their children with the school. However, our purpose is starting slow as we progress. We have been faced with the challenge of hiring good and qualified teachers but God has been more than faithful to provide us with two professional , Christian, qualified, hardworking, and talented teachers. God has also been so gracious to build up a great team of the school Projects committee that is comprised of the church members of Kampala Church of Christ. This committee continues to work tirelessly in building up the functioning and administrative structure of the school. We are also blessed with the Renovations and Construction committee that continues to work within budget to help face lift the project site into a school environment. We also praise God for the continued support and prayers from North Central Church of Christ, whose generosity has made it possible to initially renovate the building structures, to be able to have swing sets, a mary-go-round and a set of other play-ground equipment in addition to a number of scholastic requirements for the basic functioning of the school.

We also praise God that the school projects committee has been able to formulate a budget for the school. The budget is currently running to cater for the salaries of the teachers, the school fees for the sponsored children, uniforms for the children, feeding for the children, medical expenses for the children and some of the administrative costs for the general running of the school. There is still so much to learn, to adjust and re-adjust as we embark on this project. Due to the greater need for education in the area, we consider taking in children that will be self-sponsored from the community. We praise God for the school projects committee that has been able to come up with the school motto of Vine Christian Academy. The Moto is Scripture inspired from John 15:5 and the Motto is “Be Fruitful” The Theme colors are Purple depicting Royalty and the color of the Vine plant, Orange depicting the color Theme for CRF and the message of Hope. We are still working on the school uniforms and soon an order for school uniforms will be placed for all the sponsored children at Vine Christian Academy.

Related to the above is more exciting news. On 2/4/2014, the Kampala Church of Christ Ministry was able to complete payment on the wakiso land. The owner of the land needed the money so that he could arrange to shift to his new location and so we had to pay him off before the agreed deadline of March 2014. There were also still a number of legal issues that needed to be waited upon till March 2014 but on the advice of our lawyer payment, was finally made and the agreement signed off. The transfer papers were also signed and the Original Land Title handed over to Kampala Church of Christ. The transfer of the Land Title will be a process that we shall wait upon through our lawyer when the Title deed will be baptized into the names of Kampala Church of Christ Ministries. We continue to ask of your prayers for the process to proceed in haste.

Kampala Church of Christ (KCC) was blessed to host a team of our family members of North Central Church of Christ for a period of three weeks from 1/14/2014 through 2/7/2014. Nancy Harbron, Steve and Leslie Kenney spent with us a blessed few days of deep training on Church Doctrine issues for the leaders and our church plant leaders. Several of our other church members also got to be blessed to attend the trainings. A number of issues were dealt with. We are thankful for having shared from the wisdom and teachings of the Bible through the gifts and talents of Steve. Everyone is still appreciative of having had these trainings at a point in time when the North Central team was here. Follow up, debriefing and application strategies will be drawn up and initiated as we seek to have a number of transformations in the Ministry to help meet up to the challenges of urban ministry in the heart and city of Kampala.

The Kampala Church has owned the vision of the school. Several members continue to make regular visits at the school. On 2/17/2014, over a dozen of KCC members joined the rest of the people in the community to volunteer and work at the premises of Vine Christian Academy. Several tasks were accomplished on this day. Plastering the class rooms and painting both the interior and exterior walls of the buildings was done. On Sunday 2/23/2014, a presentation will be made at church about the history and progress of the school. This will also be a time for people to sign a volunteer list to participate to work at the school as there is still so much to do at the premises.

Kampala Church of Christ was blessed to have hosted the first ever meeting in the history of the New Testament Churches of Christ (NTCC) on February 6th through February 7th 2014. The focus and theme for the meeting was purposed to discuss and review governance and leadership issues of the NTCC Organization as a whole. The constitution of the organization was perused through by all the representative mission point local leaders and missionaries of Mbale, Jinja, Mbarara and Kampala. There were so many issues that were tackled in the midst of heated debates upon some issues. By the grace of God harmony reined under the cloud of God’s peace when all the leaders left united and in agreement for whatever was agreed upon. The process of review was set in motion under the guidance of a representative committee that will forward resolutions for consideration to the Board of the organization. It was also timely for having had Steve Kenney present and for being able to close the meeting with a word of encouragement. It was a blessing to have had both the local leaders and missionaries discuss issues that concern either party and for forging ways to work together in harmony. God is good!! There is so much God is set to do for the future of the Church in Uganda through the men and women that are a part of the Churches of Christ Fraternity, we urge you all to continue praying for the NTCC.

We give praise to God for the growth in numbers being realized at the weekly Lunch Hour Fellowship Ministry at KCC every Thursdays of the week from 1 pm to 2 pm. During this time the Better Living Resource Centre (BLRC) has dedicated to give time to people using the facility and the BLRC community to coming together to praise and worship God. A thirty minutes sermon from the Word of God is always in offing. A time for people to Testify about how God is working in their lives and prayer is what comprises of the weekly activities of the fellowship. God is good!!

We thank you all for all the prayers, encouragement, support and love always. We are sorry for taking so long to send out this News Letter.
