Pray with us!!!

Dear Partners in Christ,
Greetings from the Kampala Church of Christ in Uganda! We are excited to be reconnecting with your church and we pray the Lord has been with you and guiding you to walk in his ways. We write today to update you on the work of Kampala Church of Christ (KCC), to thank you for the generous support your church has provided to us over the years, and to ask for your prayers and support regarding KCC’s current needs.
In the past several years, KCC has grown in numbers and has increased its outreach. In the last two years, our fellowship has grown to 210 members and the Lord has allowed us to plant three churches in nearby villages: Wakiso (200 members), Kasangati (70 members) and Wabigalo (70 members).
In addition to our three church plants, KCC supports many ministries meant to bless our members and the community. These include six Life Care small groups that study the Bible together, a children’s Bible school ministry, and the Living Streams Flow ministry for young adults. Our Women of Grace ministry has grown from seven to 17 women who make and sell beads, grow mushrooms and tailor clothes to support their families. The women teach these skills to other women and share Jesus with them in the process. Through our agriculture ministry, our members raise more than 200 chickens as well as goats, cows and crops to provide income for our members and our church. Our Better Living Resource Center provides a place for members to relax, read spiritual books, learn, talk eat and care for one another and more recently a daily Bible Study fellowship for one hour. These are just a few of the ministries God has enabled us to form in order to glorify him.
KCC is still seeking to expand our ministry capabilities. After much prayer, the church has identified the need for a ministry vehicle that will allow us to better reach out and transform communities with the love of Christ. Most of our members do not own automobiles and we must pay high costs to use taxis for church-related transportation. Needs for a vehicle -Include:
1.       Let’s Start Talking—LST teams visit Kampala annually to help evangelize the surrounding communities. The van would help us transport LST teams to their destinations.
2.       Christian Relief Fund program visits—Children in the program are spread throughout Kampala, and a van would help us greatly in making regular visits to them and caring for their well-being.
3.       World Bible School—Kampala’s WBS campaign is very active and ambitious in schools around and beyond Kampala. A vehicle would help us transport the TV, generator, projector screen and additional evangelistic equipment used for WBS activities.
4.       New Testament Church of Christ meeting—In 2012, KCC will host this annual meeting of churches of Christ throughout Uganda that allows us to encourage one another and study the Word together. The van will be used to transport visitors from other churches around the city and to the churches we have planted in surrounding villages.
5.       Church member visitation—Most of our members live in fairly distant and dispersed places. A van would allow us to visit them and provide help when needed.
6.       Community outreach—We need to transport evangelistic equipment among the churches we have planted. A van would make this more cost efficient and convenient.
7.       Missionary visits—Using the van, visitors to our church and to other Uganda missionaries could be transported around the area as needed, which would reduce expenses for both our church and our visitors.
8.       Funerals—At times of death, a van would be used to transport mourners and the body of the deceased.
Our church has identified the vehicle we would like to purchase, a 14-passenger Toyota Hiace that gets good gas mileage and costs about $13,000 (we have dubbed it “the chariot”). We have begun actively raising money toward the chariot from within our membership through donations and by selling eggs from our chicken project. By God’s grace, we have raised $ 6000 toward the van, from our members and other donors. We are encouraged by this progress, but we know it will take us a very long time to raise the rest of the money from within our congregation since members do not have much to spare and already give generously to the church.
The New Testament Church of Christ meeting, which will be held at KCC in September 2012, has given us a sense of urgency for purchasing the chariot. We are excited to host this event, and we want to be able to provide general transportation for visitors and to transport visitors to the churches we have planted to encourage their members.
We know that with God, all things are possible. We ask for any support you could give us toward the remaining $7000 needed to purchase the chariot. Any funds received above this amount will be used for the church’s ministries and other needs. If you are unable to contribute financially, we ask for your prayers for us in reaching this goal and in continuing to love and serve our communities.
