Joseph Irwaat

09/16/2010 Vol. 011

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ. Today has been one of those days that we all thought was going to be normal but turned out abnormal and a shock. One of our church leaders, Joseph Irwaat was today morning mugged by thugs on his way to work. It was just a ten minutes walk from his home when he was attacked by four thugs and severely beaten.

He got a serious neck and forehead injury. I was called by his wife at around 8 am today informing me about what had happened. The attack according to Joseph happened at around 5:30 am in the morning. That is the time he usually sets off for work to beat the early morning traffic jam. Joseph lives in Bweyogere which is about a 20 minutes drive into the city. Apparently, three other people were mugged up by thugs today in the same area. Annet, Joseph’s wife says, two of the victims have died today morning. We praise God because Joseph is alive.

We took Joseph to Mulago hospital in the morning. Mulago is the biggest hospital in the country. There was nothing much they did other than making us wait for long hours. I decided that we take him to Nsambya hospital. Nsambya hospital is a missionary founded hospital and their services are much quicker. A few hours ago, Joseph came out of the X-ray room and we are awaiting for the results. He has been admitted and has been put on drip. It is such a sad situation. Joseph had just taken his children back to school for this term, please pray for his children to concentrate especially now.

Joseph is able to talk but he is still in so much pain. Several of our church members have already started visiting Joseph in hospital. Today morning we had a prayer meeting at the casualty ward at Mulago hospital. We praise God that Joseph will heal and get back to normal.

Fred Senkumba, one of the other church leaders has gone to Bweyogere to report the case at the police station, probably something will be done. The thugs took Joseph’s mobile phone, an umbrella and some amounts of money. His shirt and trouser were all bloody. Please continue to pray for Joseph, his wife, children and his church family at Kampala Church of Christ. Will be updating all of you more about his situation. May God bless and keep you all.

In Christ Jesus
Isaac Sanyu
