kampala church of christ News Letter Vol. 23
At
the
beginning
of
last
year,
the
Kampala
church
embraced
a
theme
of
reaching
out
into
the
communities.
A
venture
to
go
out
into
the
communities
to
spread
the
love
of
Christ
became
a
relevant
and
a
long
awaited
ministry.
The
communities
welcomed
us
with
open
arms.
For
a
number
of
years
the
work
of
the
church
has
been
concentrated
in
the
city
center
and
as
such
we
had
very
limited
growth
in
as
far
as
church
plants
are
concerned.
For
years,
time
and
energy
has
been
spent
in
several
of
our
communities.
For
the
most
part
of
the
life
of
the
Kampala
Ministry,
we
have
moved
out
into
the
communities,
to
visit,
to
bury
friends
and
members
of
the
church,
done
mobile
Medical
Clinics,
spread
the
World
Bible
School
ministry
in
several
places,
given
out
free
gift
boxes
to
children
through
the
Evangelical
Fellowship
of
Uganda
(EFU)
and
helped
a
number
of
the
poor,
orphans
and
needy
children
in
our
communities
through
the
Christian
Relief
Fund
(CRF)
to
mention
but
a
few
of
the
activities.
We
therefore
boast
of
a
considerable
investment
of
relationships
that
God
has
allowed
us
to
impact
over
the
years.
Against
this
background,
we
thought
it
timely
to
capitalize
on
these
relationships
to
spread
the
love
of
Christ
at
a
much
more
elevated
purpose
of
planting
churches
in
our
communities.
In
as
much
as
we
are
still
needing
in
terms
of
resources,
man
power,
training
and
equipment,
the
voice
of
God
is
clear
in
letting
us
know
that
the
time
is
ripe
to
plant
churches
and
spread
the
gospel
even
farther
using
what
we
have.
What
seems
to
be
working
for
us
in
this
challenge
is
the
love
of
Christ
and
the
Faith
we
have
which
amazingly
continues
to
open
doors
for
us
wherever
we
go.
There
are
so
many
opportunities
that
keep
pronouncing
themselves
as
we
venture
into
the
communities.
As
such
we
have
resolved
to
seize
the
signs
and
to
learn
from
them
as
we
put
what
we
know
and
our
experiences
into
practice.
We
have
three
church
plant
projects
that
have
been
started
by
the
church
in
Kampala.
So
far,
Wabigalo
Church
of
Christ,
Kasangati
Church
of
Christ
and
Wakiso
Church
of
Christ
(now
known
as
Lifeway
Church
of
Christ)
are
among
the
three
church
plants
that
have
taken
ground.
We
praise
God
for
all
these
church
plants.
However,
we
would
want
to
share
what
God
continues
to
do
in
Wakiso
as
an
example
of
God’s
intervention
in
the
process
of
having
churches
planted.
Being
frequent
followers
of
the
Living
Rays
News
Letter,
you
may
all
be
aware
that
it
all
started
by
starting
a
goat
project
in
Wakiso.
Thereafter,
we
had
Bible
Study
fellowships
being
started.
The
Waksio
Sunday
School
and
Youth
ministries
came
into
being
as
well.
All
these
ministries
are
now
taking
place
weekly
in
Wakiso.
We
had
several
Baptisms
in
Wakiso
on
6/5/2011.
To
us
this
was
a
clear
message
of
the
beginning
of
the
Wakiso
church.
All
these
events
later
led
to
our
first
worship
service
in
Wakiso
on
7/10/2011.
Mr.
Godffery
Mbazira
is
the
minister
that
has
taken
up
leadership
in
Wakiso.
We
praise
God
for
that.
Most
recently,
God
surprised
all
of
us
when
two
members
in
the
community
of
Wakiso
offered
land
to
the
Kampala
Church.
This
has
been
an
answered
prayer.
In
most
of
the
communities
where
we
serve,
there
is
a
lack
of
space
and
shelter
for
ministries.
We
give
praise
to
God
for
this
providence
and
at
such
a
time
as
this.
Plans
are
underway
to
construct
a
simple
and
an
inexpensive
structure
on
the
land
that
has
been
offered.
We
ask
that
you
join
with
us
in
prayer
for
God
to
help
and
provide
resources
for
this
to
happen.
Recently,
on
7/06/2011,
several
of
our
leaders
went
on
site
in
wakiso
to
have
a
physical
survey
of
the
land.
The
land
is
(100ft
by
100ft)
in
size.
We
prayed
over
the
land
and
thanked
God
for
His
ever
present
providence
for
our
needs
and
humble
requests.
A
name
has
been
finally
given
to
the
church
in
Wakiso,
“Lifeway
Church
of
Christ”
We
give
praise
to
God
as
we
start
witnessing
the
works
of
God
through
the
Christian
Relief
Fund
(CRF)
in
Kampala.
CRF
is
a
sponsorship
program
for
orphans
and
needy
children.
CRF
was
started
in
Kampala
through
the
help
of
Ken
and
Nova
Vaughn
in
1998.
Currently
we
have
Ninety
three
children
in
the
program.
So
many
children
have
passed
through
CRF
over
the
years.
Children
have
been
able
to
go
to
school,
fed,
clothed,
and
medically
helped
through
CRF
funding.
A
number
of
these
children
have
been
baptized
into
Christ
over
the
years.
On
7/10/2011
we
witnessed
one
of
them
receiving
Christ
as
her
personal
Savior
and
Lord.
Cinthia
Barungi
joined
the
CRF
program
in
6/1/2004.
She
is
now
ready
to
go
to
University.
Her
mother
passed
away
several
years
back
due
to
HIV
AIDS.
Her
father
is
still
struggling
with
HIV
AIDS.
A
week
before,
she
called
our
office
and
requested
to
be
baptized
into
Christ.
On
this
day
we
were
also
joined
by
another
of
the
CRF
kids,
Alvin
Mugisha.
Alvin,
joined
CRF
in
9/1/1998.
By
then,
he
used
to
attend
Sunday
school
as
a
little
kid.
On
7/10/2011,
it
was
humbling
to
see
Alvin
coming
of
age
and
teaching
Sunday
school
in
a
class
he
was
once
in.
Alvin
has
been
raised
by
his
single
mother
of
two.
God
is
good.
There
are
several
other
CRF
children
that
God
continues
to
work
through
in
Kampala.

However,
as
we
continue
to
develop
and
acquaint
ourselves
into
community
ministry,
the
feeling
grows
even
more
to
our
sight
to
having
a
school
started
in
the
community
of
Wakiso
for
instance.
Wakiso,
is
one
of
the
areas
in
the
country
that
was
hit
hard
by
the
liberation
war
in
the
1980’s.
So
many
people
lost
their
lives
in
this
war.
As
a
result,
there
are
a
great
number
of
orphans,
poor
and
needy
children
in
this
community
like
elsewhere
we
have
been.
We
can
easily
envision
a
school
being
started
in
Wakiso.
If
God
allowed
it
so,
it
would
give
us
an
opportunity
to
operate
in
a
more
centralized
administrative
area
where
the
children
can
be
taught
in
one
place
and
in
a
school
setting.
This
would
help
us
monitor
the
child’s
physical
and
spiritual
growth
over
time.
With
the
current
opportunities
of
free
land
offers,
we
could
have
a
church
and
school
operating
on
the
same
piece
of
and.
This
would
impact
the
community
with
the
love
of
Christ
for
generations.
The
practical
advantage
in
wakiso
is
that,
the
volunteers
teaching
Sunday
school
are
all
teachers
by
profession.
The
signs
are
somewhat
clear
for
where
God
may
want
to
lead
us.
Indeed
it
is
a
big
dream
but
we
get
comfort
in
knowing
that
we
serve
a
Big
God.
Please
continue
to
pray
for
God
to
widen
our
scope
of
Ministry
in
these
communities
where
we
serve.
Pray
that
God
may
give
us
the
wisdom
and
resources
we
need
to
accomplish
all
that
He
needs
us
to
do
in
these
communities.

The
Evangelical
Fellowship
of
Uganda
(EFU),
blessed
the
Kampala
Church
of
Christ
(KCC),
with
another
donation
of
gifts
for
children
for
the
communities.
Last
year,
we
were
blessed
with
a
good
number
of
gifts
that
blessed
over
three
hundred
kids
in
Wakiso.
A
few
weeks
back,
we
were
given,
forty
five
boxes
of
gifts
for
four
hundred
and
fifty
children.
On
7/13/2011,
twelve
boxes
of
gifts
were
taken
to
Wakiso
to
bless
over
one
hundred
kids
with
gifts.
It
was
a
great
day
of
the
Lord
when
several
church
members
converged
in
Waksio
to
participate
on
the
gift
giving
day.
A
sermon
was
prepared
by
Okello
Patrick
whose
theme
was
freely
we
have
received,
freely
we
give.
On
7/16/2011,
we
were
able
to
bless
the
children
of
Wabigalo
with
gifts
as
well.
